Meet the Designers
We’ll turn your ideas and tall toddler tales over to our favorite eco-designer, William McDonough, and our friends at IDEO so they can do their magic.

See how much goes into creating a great bag!

Bag Diary
Wee Generation is almost ready to deliver the much-anticipated eco-baby bag! Can you believe it’s been almost nine months since we announced it? We are just PREGNANT with excitement! The bag is our “baby” and the most beautiful (and functional!) one we’ve ever seen, but – naturally – we’re a Wee bit biased. Our eco-baby bag due date is early June, so create a note-to-self to check in for the birth announcement heralding the bag’s availability and featuring its design. The incredible Rickshaw Bagworks – Wee Generation’s bag manufacturing partner – will be the exclusive retailer for the eco-baby bag and is busy, busy, busy preparing for its birth. Visit www.rickshawbagworks.com to sign up for updates. In the meantime, stay tuned for news on the sweepstakes’ green nursery makeover winner and her pay-it-forward beneficiary. Wee Generation will provide you helpful tips on greening up your own baby nursery or kid space. You can also visit Wee Generation partner, Healthy Child Healthy World, at www.healthychild.org for helpful information regarding a healthy home. If you need a baby gift idea, look into Seventh Generation’s Natural Baby Starter Kit: http://shop.seventhgeneration.com/naturalbabystarterkit.aspx. Keep Wee Generation in your thoughts and we’ll announce the birth day soon! The Wee Generation Team (and future proud parents!)
Wee Generation Eco-Baby Bag Update!

Bag Diary
Wee Generation founding partner, Seventh Generation, has just launched a new Holiday Store packed with gifts and gear – including healthy gear for baby! First, the Organic Baby’s One-Piece is modeled after our very own Wee Generation Baby-T that we’ve been giving away to our sweepstakes instant winners. Made from 100% Organic Baby Rib cotton and combed for softness and comfort, the one-piece has a specially made neckline for easy on-and-off. The triple seat snaps also make for quick diaper changes. Second, the Natural Baby Starter Kit , packaged in a reusable Seventh Generation tote bag, comes complete with Size 1 Chlorine-Free Diapers, Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes with refills, and Natural Baby Laundry Detergent. What a great way to introduce both baby and parents to healthy green living, right?! Right! So, as we all wait for the Cradle to Cradle certified Wee Generation baby bag to be made available, hopefully baby gifts like these can tide us over. Enjoy! Can’t wait for the Wee Generation baby bag? Well, you’re gonna have to, BUT, in the meantime you can at least sign up on the waiting list.

Rickshaw Bagworks, the latest partner on the Wee Generation team, has been sketching and prototyping away and the bag is taking shape. We hope to be able to reveal pictures soon, but in the meantime we can let you know a few tidbits. First, your suggestions in our “Design the Bag” section have been well-received and taken into account, so thanks to everyone who took the time to share stories and perspectives on the world of baby bags. Getting a clear idea of what works and what doesn’t (from the experts who use them every day) has been invaluable in shaping the direction of the bag – good work, everybody! Also, as planned, everything is on track for the bag to be a certified Cradle to Cradle product. We do not know yet which product rating the baby bag will earn (Platinum, Gold, Silver or Basic), but we do know it will be the first Cradle to Cradle bag of any kind and one of only a few consumer products available with this certification. Core77
, the popular design blog (consistently a Top 1000 blog destination and an “industrial design wonderland” according to Technorati) has written about the bag and muses that if baby bags are getting designed with C2C certification in mind then C2C might really be gaining traction as a design principle – we certainly hope so!

After the red carpet treatment in Los Angeles and New York City last week, our Wee Generation teammate William McDonough hits the silver screen in 16 more U.S. and Canadian cities today. He is one of over 50 leading scientists, thinkers and leaders interviewed in Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary “The 11th Hour.” Go, Bill! According to Warner Independent Pictures, “the film explores how we’ve arrived at this moment - how we live, how we impact the earth’s ecosystems, and what we can do to change our course.” Well, the Wee Generation team is certainly doing its part to help us all change course, so you can expect us to be filling theatre seats soon. Mr. McDonough is featured in the film’s trailer saying “We have to imagine what it would be like to re-design design itself.” Not surprisingly, this is the type of thinking he shared with our team during the Wee Generation Baby Bag “deep dive” at IDEO last month in Palo Alto (watch our interview with him in the “Follow the Bag Video Blogs” section of this site and see what we did at the “deep dive” in our “Follow the Bag” slide shows). Did we mention we had assembled an all-star team?! Seriously, a hearty congratulations to our Cradle to Cradle guide, William McDonough, for being a part of this important film. See you at the movies!

Yesterday we officially announced the launch (birth!) of the Wee Generation project and the early response has been great. To see what people are saying, stay tuned at the “Media Coverage” section of the “Who Wee Are” page as we compile coverage in the coming days. We especially like the post at Behind the Curtain, a blog for contemporary design. First, it’s rewarding for Wee Generation to be immediately noticed by a design-savvy blog; secondly, they clearly understand the central focus of our project: the place where the creativity of new parents and a healthy environment meet. Here’s what they said: Hear, hear!
Birth Announcement
August 7, 2007
“Manufacturers want to give us the best products, but a lot of times it's the consumer who's the expert - we know what we want because we're so frustrated with not having. It pushes us to become inventive, and nobody gets creative like new parents…That's why Wee Generation wants your input on what makes the best diaper bag…The only rules - the environment comes first. This bag is about the future after all, and cradle to cradle the future is green.”

Here Wee Go!
July 20, 2007
Here we go! It seems like the team here has been working on the Wee Generation project for ages now (it has been building up steam since January), but we're really only just getting started - because now we're finally beginning the conversation with YOU through this site.
What have we done so far? Just a few things (!): assembled an all-star green design team, spent time learning from busy parents, built some fast and furious prototype bags, developed a sweepstakes chock-full o' prizes, launched this website, interviewed lots of key team members, helped throw an eco-baby shower and had many deep, challenging, invigorating discussions about how we can make the world's most functional, fashionable, eco-friendly baby bag.
We're thrilled to be at this point along the path - the point at which you get involved and help us in this process.
Stay tuned here for posts that will allow you to Follow the Bag as it grows from concept to reality. We'll also use this space to catch you up on the process to date. Until then, please explore the site, watch the first video blog, study the 5 Easy Steps, help us Design the Bag...and register to win some very cool, very green prizes.
